International Women's Day 2021

International Women’s Day, an opportunity to shine the spotlight for 24 hours on women who have been an integral part of lives and those who have given so much to the society we live in today. Some may see this as patronising whilst others will see it as a token gesture for the well deserved. Here at Wave Sport & Fitness and Wave Yoga, we see it as an opportunity to give thanks to the women at the forefront of our yoga practice. Through the growth of Wave Yoga Bristol, we will continue to facilitate the empowerment of women through yoga.

Empowerment is something we here at Wave Yoga feel incredibly passionate about. Through the course of this year we will be publishing more and more content from our teachers and mentors with a view to support and encourage friends and fellow yogis.

Wave Yoga encourages you to find the power in your practice today! Practice pranayama – breathing control. Allow yourself to focus and find balance, clarity and bring awareness to the body. Turn inwards and relish in your you-time.

As we know holding any Asana for an extended time forces you to confront the challenge of mental and physical limitations. Let’s face it, negative thoughts typically present themselves when in a particularly challenging pose. Comparison and feelings of self-doubt can creep into your mind, Wave Yoga encourages you to try and find the strength to convince yourself that you are good enough, that with time you will improve, that you can push through the negativity.

Wave Yoga also wants you to understand that you know your body better than anyone else. Today is a day to celebrate those achievements and mentally remove boundaries without fear of judgement. Accept where you are in your practice and you’ll see progress soon enough.

Whilst on the topic of progress… we may show gratitude for our unique circumstances, we can all acknowledge improvements are still there to be made – gender equality being the most significant - on today, International Women's Day. Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate women and all of the barriers we have overcome thus far, but acknowledge the inequalities that remain.

Happy International Women’s Day!
